Sonography Supervisor

UVM Medical Center's Ultrasound Department includes Breast and Diagnostic Ultrasound services at the main hospital campus and our Fanny Allen campus.

The Supervisor is responsible for staffing and the daily operations associated with UVM Medical Center's Ultrasound Department. This role ensures compliance with mandates from regulatory agencies for quality imaging, quality control, and quality assurance for sonographers, radiologists, physicists, equipment, and patient records. The Supervisor performs clinical procedures and oversees the clinical instruction conducted by ultrasound educators for students and sonographers, participating in the development of Radiology policies and procedures.

Additionally, the Supervisor assists the Radiology Manager with budgetary responsibilities, long-range planning, and the operational budget for the Ultrasound Department. As part of the management team, the Supervisor helps fulfill departmental goals.

Responsible for the daily operations of the Ultrasound Department in a level I trauma center, the Sonography Supervisor will focus on administrative duties alongside day-to-day staffing responsibilities. Enjoy a flexible schedule and occasional remote work as you meet the needs of your team.

This is a 24/7 service with flexible hours/schedule opportunities in accordance with departmental needs. We are seeking an individual who will be available by phone to support staff and the Department during off-hours as needed.

**JOB DESCRIPTION:**

The Staff Sonographer performs a variety of routine and complex imaging procedures using high-frequency sound waves. Since ultrasound can be degraded or blocked by various tissues and materials, including lung, bowel gas, and bone, obtaining a sonogram is a tailored examination requiring technical skill to adjust the machine, experience to find appropriate "windows" that can transmit an undistorted ultrasound beam, and diagnostic knowledge to obtain extra images customized to the diagnosis of concern and to abnormalities seen while obtaining the basic image set. This need to heavily customize the examination to each patient and to recognize and diagnose pathology separates the sonographer from other imaging technologists in radiology. The Staff Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasounds and other required modalities within individual department(s). Examinations are performed independently, under physician supervision, and with peer collaboration as appropriate.

**SCHEDULE:**

9 PM - 7 AM Sunday, 8 PM - 6 AM Monday through Wednesday. While not a requirement at this time, call could be assigned in the future if the business need arises.
